Music
From the guitar to the keyboard and from the trombone to the saxophone, music is all around us, inhabiting a rich and diverse world. From the obo to the clarinet and from the drums to the double bass, it provides the world with sounds and emotions which move us and stay with us forever.
From Radiohead to U2 and from Nirvana to Led Zeppelin, musicians are just as wide ranging as the music they produce. From Mozart to Beethoven and from Tchaikovsky to Frank Sinatra, they have all inhabited periods of time where the musical landscape is different and evolving.
There are countless ways to enjoy music that range from the epic scale events that make up the summer months (rock festivals) to the low key events of listening to a CD or humming your favourite tune. Perhaps that’s what makes music so accessible and so popular – it is unavoidable, diverse and unique, there are so many ways to hear music that everyone can find it through some avenue. And this has been the case since the dawn of man, back when tribal beats and bird song would have laid the inspiration to produce countless tunes and songs. Nowadays we hear it in the shops, from mobile phones, on the television, in movies, on the radio, on our walkmans, CD players, record players and even live onstage within small intimate venues or large scale arenas and stadiums worldwide.
And there doesn’t seem to be any way of stopping it. But then, who would want to? Music makes up a huge part of our culture and it unites us in so many ways. And on top of that it brings in enormous amounts of money for record companies all over the world. People like Simon Cowell have been hugely successful by finding new talents and showcasing them to the world from Leona Lewis to Alexandra Burke. Then there are countless further popstars that put a smile on so many young faces, including Britney Spears, Take That, Will Young, McFly, Madonna, Justin Timberlake, Westlife and Rhianna.
It remains to be seen how far music can go. Who knows what the next technological and creative steps could be that will take us way into the future? The only certainty is music’s never ending popularity.
